360 A 360 Panorama from the top of Gilf Kebir Plateau (70K) 360

2001 - January 21 - Latitude N 23 30.9'- Longitude E 25 6.5'
Dawn on the near-top of the Gilf Kebir. After the climb of 800 meters of difference in level, beyond the Aqaba Pass, we entered in a wide suspended valley (known as "The Gap"). We ride in an enchanted and unsuspected landscape that is still made of hills and dunes but in some respect looks like a lost world. We found this landscape utterly different from the endless sandy plain facing the Gilf Kebir southern scarp. Here amid this hidden valley we placed our Camp Number 4 waiting for the sunrise. From the top of a modest dune constituting a privileged point of view, a golden-yellow observatory, we took a 360 panorama of the central part of the Gilf Kebir Plateau. The lights and shadows played for us.

This panorama was created starting from film slides in a time when digital photography was still to became the mainstream. It was the first 360 panorama of the Gilf kebir ever published on the web. Therefore we keep it on Terramata as a nice memory. At the time the Gilf kebir without mass-tourism was a reality. Now it is a memory of the old golden days as film is in our camera!
