Storia Militare 177

The Number 177 June 2008 of the prestigious Italian magazine devoted to Military History :

Storia Militare

Editor: Commander Erminio Bagnasco

is now available on the bookshelves and can be purchased from the Editor's web-site.
The 177 issue includes a paper by Alessandro Menardi Noguera, Stefano Laberio Minozzi and Michele Soffiantini:

Auenat, 1932-2007

Storia di un campo di atterraggio di fortuna in Libia

This paper, enriched by the precious unedited vintage pictures found in private archives, deals with the history of the AUENAT old Italian military airstrip, built in 1932 at the southern slopes of the Jebel Uweinat (Gebel Auenat) in Libya. This airstrip played an important strategic role during World War II. Its history is a good complement to the Saull Kelly's book The hunt for Zerzura (2002), a reference book about the political implications of the pre-war Libyan Desert explorations, which is however affected by some inaccuracies about the Italian protagonists.
